Lock Cylinder Re-Keying and Key Cutting

I quickly became tired of carrying as many as three keys for one of my cars, having to remember which one did what. Because of this I learned how to rekey my lock cylinders. The only cylinders that I am not able to rekey are the ignition and gas cap cylinders (due to the internal workings of the former and the variety of caps on the market for the latter).

I have decided to provide this service to my fellow Volkswagen drivers for a small fee. After all, these are supposed to be the "peoples' car" and what would be the point of paying a locksmith much more to do this whenever it can be done much less expensively.

I have the ability to purchase ignition lock cylinders inexpensively and can rekey the other locks to this key, however the drawback to this is that you will have to install the ignition cylinder yourself. Even less expensive lock cylinders can be purchased, though they may not have the Volkswagen emblem on the keys. Regardless, you would then have keys for all your locks with the exception of your gas cap. You must give me the year and model of your car AND notify me ahead of time if you'd like a new ignition lock cylinder. Typically I have these quickly available to me, though it may sometimes take me a few days to get the correct one for your car. I will notify you if that is the case.

Please note, I must have a working copy of your key to rekey the locks to. Without a copy I will still be able to rekey your door lock cylinders (requires a correct, working lock cylinder), though I cannot guarantee they will work properly.

A copy of your key will not be made (unless requested in your order) and I will return the key with your order when finished.

In addition, I can also provide you with a key to your vehicle if you do not have one. Please note that the ignition cylinder and at least one of the lock cylinders must match. If the ignition or lock cylinder was changed, I may not be able to get a key to fit the ignition. I mention this as the ignition is a sealed unit and cannot be re-keyed, nor can the code be recovered for it. However, if you are certain that the locks do match, I can create a new key for you. It will be cut properly, though due to wear of the ignition cylinder, may be difficult to work until the key has been "broken-in". This process will require you sending me a correct, working lock cylinder.

Neither a copy of your lock cylinder and key will not be made (unless requested in your order) and I will return the lock cylinder with your order when finished.
